RNLI and National Trust benefit from yachtsman''s will
Date:
27 Aug 2008
A yachting enthusiast has left sums of £500,000 to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and the National Trust, it has been reported.
The two organisations were the major beneficiaries from the £1,005,056 estate of Peter Fox from Feock, Cornwall, who died aged 76 earlier this year.
A smaller sum of £10,000 also went to the Benevolent Fund of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, reports thisiscornwall.co.uk.
The retired mechanical engineer, a keen member of the local sailing community and a National Trust volunteer, left the sums in his will in the absence of any lose family members.
Speaking to the Western Morning News, sailing companion Brian Alexander, 69, described Mr Fox as "a life-long bachelor with a good circle of friends".
"Like all of us, he belonged to the RNLI and was a keen supporter," he added.
A spokesman for the National Trust said the body was "immensely grateful" for the bequest, which would be invested back into Cornwall.
