EMPLOYMENT LAW GROUP
The Group consists of Lynne Burns, Alex Hall, Nick Giddy, Nigel Machin and Colin Godfrey.
Lynne has headed up employment teams at City firms, Masons and Orchard joining the Employment Group at Vizards Tweedie in 2005. She has also worked as in-house counsel for a global telecommunications company and major retail company. Lynne specialises in Employment & Employee Benefits and advises on employment issues for both companies and individuals. Lynne deals in all aspects of employment law both contentious & non-contentious, TUPE, unfair and wrongful dismissal claims, discrimination and Equal Pay cases.
Previous Deals
· Advising on a global outsourcing deal including a transfer of employees in a major IT company from 65 different countries around the world under the Transfer of Undertaking Regulations and Acquired Rights Directive.
· Advising on collective dismissal programmes across Europe, Middle East and Asia, liasing with local lawyers in each country, country Directors and Works Councils.
· Advising on the integration and forthcoming and legal merger of MCI Worldcom Ltd and UUNet across EMEA.
· Advising upon the restructuring of a company into a line of business organisation on a pan-European basis.
· Establishing international employee representative collective consultation groups.
· Relocation of London employees to M4 Corridor involving collective consultation.
· Advising on employment issues for Harrods, Fulham Football Club, Punch magazine, Liberty Radio and Publishing, Metro Business Aviation, Kurt Geiger.
· Acting for a Government department on a transfer of all court staff under the Private Finance Initiative. (“P F I”)
· Drafting service agreements for senior employees and directors.
Alex joined the firm as a trainee in September 2005 and qualified into the Corporate and Employment Departments. Alex advises mainly on the non-contentious side of employment matters and has particular experience in the following areas:
· TUPE
· Drafting employment contracts including directors’ service agreements
· Advising on Compromise Agreements
· Advice on restructuring and reshaping the business to suit changing business needs, downsizing and outsourcing
· Advice specifically catering for corporate clients such as company formations
Nick joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in September 2006 and is now an assistant solicitor in the Employment Law Group. He deals with mainly contentious employment, including tribunal work and in an advisory capacity to clients. His experience to date is in the following areas:
· Advice on Wrongful and Unfair Dismissal claims – he has acted for both claimants and respondents
· Compromise Agreements for both employers and employees
Nigel is a second year trainee and is currently undertaking his third seat in the Employment Group. To date he has had experience in the following areas:
· Drafting employment contracts
· Discrimination claims for both Claimant and Respondent
· Compromise Agreements
· Statutory Disciplinary and Dismissal procedures
· Claims of Unfair Dismissal and Wrongful Dismissal
· Redundancy
Colin is s second year trainee who handles employment law issues and specialised in this area in his law degree at Reading University and in his LPC. He deals with the following areas:
· Most forms of employment claims including: Unfair Dismissal, Wrongful Dismissal, Redundancy and Discrimination.
